Giveaways

Creating a Giveaway

Set the prize, the channel, the end condition and the winner count, from the dashboard or from Discord.

Every giveaway starts the same way: you say what the prize is, where it should be posted and how it should finish. Everything else has a sensible default, and the defaults come from Giveaways > Configuration, so a second giveaway usually takes a few seconds.

Access the Web Dashboard

Open your Tickety Dashboard. Log in using your Discord Account.

  1. Once logged in, locate and click on the "Giveaways" section in the sidebar.

  2. Select "Giveaway Management" from the options, then click Create New Giveaway.

The five steps

The wizard runs through Prize, Schedule, Winners, Access and Review. You cannot move on until the step you are on is valid, and you can click back to any step you have already passed.

Prize

SettingWhat it does
PrizeWhat you are giving away. It becomes the heading of the giveaway message. Required, up to 256 characters
Giveaway ChannelWhere the message is posted. Text channels, announcement channels and their threads. Required
Announcement PingA role, or @everyone, pinged with the message. Leave it on No ping and the message says 🎉 GIVEAWAY 🎉 instead
DescriptionExtra detail shown under the prize
HostThe member shown as the host. Search for anyone in your server. Leave it empty to use your own account

Schedule

Pick the End Condition and set its value. The four options are explained under Choosing an end condition.

Winners

SettingWhat it does
WinnersHow many members are drawn when the giveaway ends. Between 1 and 99
Winner Reward RolesRoles handed to the winners automatically once the giveaway ends

Access

SettingWhat it does
Allowed Entry RolesRoles a member needs to enter. Leave it empty and anyone can enter
Blocked Entry RolesRoles that cannot enter
Requirement Bypass RolesRoles that can enter even without an allowed role
Boosted Roles Extra EntriesApplies the boosted roles from your configuration to this giveaway

These four start filled in from Giveaways > Configuration, and changing them here only changes this giveaway. Full detail is on Entry requirements and luck.

Review

A summary of the prize, the channel, the ping, the end condition, the winner count, the host and the access rules. Press Create Giveaway and Tickety posts the message.

Cancel Creation and leaving the page both throw away what you filled in. Tickety asks you to confirm first.

Choosing an end condition

OptionEnds
TimeAfter a duration counted from the moment you publish
DateAt a calendar date and time you pick
Participant GoalThe moment entries reach the number you set
Server Member GoalWhen your server reaches the member count you set

A few rules apply whichever one you pick:

  • The shortest giveaway is 1 minute, and a date has to be at least a minute in the future.
  • A server member goal has to be above your current member count.
  • The winner count cannot be higher than a participant or member goal. If it is, you get Winners Count Too High.
  • A goal giveaway has no clock. It runs until the goal is met, so end it yourself if the goal never arrives.

Creating one from Discord

Run /giveaway create with three required options:

  • prize - what you are giving away, up to 256 characters.
  • winners - how many members win, between 1 and 99.
  • duration - the end condition. Start typing and pick a suggestion.

Two more are optional: channel (defaults to the channel you ran the command in) and description (up to 2048 characters).

The duration option accepts plain language. Type 2h, 30m or 1 day for a timed giveaway, 100 participants for a participant goal, or 1000 members for a server member goal, then choose the suggestion that appears.

Tickety replies with a private Giveaway Builder message. Nothing is posted yet. It has four blocks you can edit:

BlockButtonWhat is inside
Giveaway DetailsEdit DetailsPrize, winners, description
DurationEditThe end condition, with a Time / Participants / Server Members picker
Post SettingsEdit Post SettingsChannel, host, ping role
Entry RulesEdit Entry RulesRequired, blocked, bypass and winner roles

Press Publish when it looks right. Cancel leaves nothing behind and Tickety confirms with Giveaway Cancelled.

The builder message expires after a while. If you come back to a stale one you get Builder Expired, and running /giveaway create again is the whole fix.

Editing a running giveaway

/giveaway edit reopens the same builder for a giveaway that is still running, pre-filled with its current values. Press Save Changes and the posted message updates in place.

  • Leave the end condition alone and the giveaway keeps its original end time.
  • Changing a goal to something the giveaway has already passed is refused with Target Already Reached, because it would never end.
  • A giveaway that already ended, or was deleted, cannot be edited. You get Giveaway Unavailable.

What gets posted

The giveaway message is made of the same parts every time:

  • The ping role at the top, or 🎉 GIVEAWAY 🎉 when there is no ping.
  • The prize as the heading, with your description under it.
  • A Giveaway Information field with Ends, Winners and Hosted By.
  • Required Roles when the giveaway has any.
  • A Boosted Roles field listing the roles and their multipliers, when boosted entries are on.
  • An Increase Your Chances link when vote entries are on.
  • The Participate button, with the live entry count in its label.

A FAQ button and a View Giveaway button can sit next to Participate as well. Both are covered on Giveaway appearance.

Who can create one

Running any /giveaway command needs one of the following:

  • The server's Admin Role.
  • Both Manage Channels and Send Messages.
  • A role you allowed for the giveaway command under Command Permissions.

Anyone else gets Missing Permissions.

Limits

Prize is capped at 256 characters and the winner count at 99. The description accepts 2048 characters from /giveaway create, but the dashboard wizard saves the first 1024, so keep a long description in Discord.
