How to open my DMs?
Troubleshooting steps to allow Tickety to DM you when DMs are blocked, broken for this server, or disabled in your Discord global settings.
Bots cannot send message requests - if Tickety is trying to DM you and nothing is arriving, the issue is always on the receiving end (a Discord setting blocking the DM). Follow the steps below to fix it.
Find the Tickety bot
- Open Discord (desktop is easiest).
- Go to the server where Tickety is installed.
- Find
Ticketyin the member list, or search for it using Discord's search. - Open the bot's profile and click
Message(chat bubble icon).
If a DM opens, you're done. If nothing happens or it errors, continue below.
After changing any setting
Fully close and reopen Discord, then click Message on Tickety again.
Fix: Unblock Tickety
If you previously blocked Tickety (even accidentally), it cannot DM you.
- Open User Settings.
- Desktop: click your avatar (bottom-left) → User Settings.
- Mobile: tap your avatar → Settings.
- Go to Privacy & Safety.
- Find the Blocked Users list.
- Search for
Ticketyand click Unblock.
Then go back to Tickety's profile and click Message again.
Accidentally blocking the bot while troubleshooting is the most common cause of this issue.
Fix: Enable DMs in your global Discord settings
This setting prevents bots from DMing you entirely.
- Open User Settings.
- Go to Privacy & Safety.
- Find the Direct Messages section.
- Enable Allow direct messages from server members (exact wording may vary).
Restart Discord and try clicking Message on Tickety again.
Bots are treated like server members for DM purposes - if this is off, no bot can reach your DMs.
Fix: Server-specific DM issue
If DMs only fail when started from this particular server, the server's privacy settings are blocking them:
- Right-click (or long-press on mobile) the server icon.
- Open Privacy Settings.
- Enable Direct Messages (allows server members, including bots, to DM you from this server).
Restart Discord and try again.
