# Welcome new members (/welcomer/welcomer)













The welcomer greets every member who joins: it can give them roles, post a message with a picture card in a channel, and send them a DM. Everything here applies to the whole server.

    ### Open the welcomer [#open-the-welcomer]

    Open your [dashboard](https://tickety.top/dashboard) and pick your server. In the sidebar, under **Welcomer**, click **Configuration**.

    ### Turn the welcomer on and pick the join roles [#turn-the-welcomer-on-and-pick-the-join-roles]

    Under **General Settings**:

    1. Turn on **Welcomer System**. If verification is on, **Wait for Verification** appears below it, switched on. The welcome and the roles then only happen once the member passes verification.
    2. Open **Roles to Assign** and pick roles every new member gets. Leave it empty to give none. Roles above Tickety's own role cannot be picked.

    ### Design the card [#design-the-card]

    Under **Welcome Card**. The card is a picture with the member's avatar and name.

    1. Under **Card Layout**, pick **Centered** or **Sidebar**. **Custom** 👑 lets you build your own layout.
    2. Under **Background**, pick one of the ready made backgrounds. **Background Dim** darkens it so the text stays readable.

    The **Preview** shows exactly how the card will look.

    ### Turn on the channel message [#turn-on-the-channel-message]

    Under **Welcome Messages**, turn on **Welcome Message**.

    ### Pick the channel [#pick-the-channel]

    Open **Welcome Channel** and pick where the welcome is posted.

    ### Write the message [#write-the-message]

    Change the message text if you like. It starts as a welcome with the member's mention and your server's member count. Words in curly brackets, like `{member.mention}`, are placeholders Tickety fills in for each member.

    **Welcome Card Image** is on to start with and attaches the card to this message. In Discord it looks like this:

    ### Send a DM too [#send-a-dm-too]

    Turn on **DM Message** further down to also send the member a private welcome. It has its own text, and a grey button with your server's name so they know where it came from.

    ### Save [#save]

    Press **Save Changes** in the bar at the bottom of the page. The next member who joins is welcomed.

## It did not work? [#it-did-not-work]

  <Accordion title="Nobody is welcomed">
    Check these: **Welcomer System** is on, **Welcome Message** is on with a **Welcome Channel** picked, and Tickety can see and send messages there. With **Wait for Verification** on, members are only welcomed after they pass verification. Bots are never welcomed.

  <Accordion title="The same member was not welcomed a second time">
    A member who leaves and rejoins within 6 hours is not welcomed again.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The message came without the card">
    **Welcome Card Image** is off, Tickety is missing the Attach Files permission in that channel, or the card could not be drawn in time. The message is still sent without it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="New members do not get the roles">
    Tickety needs the Manage Roles permission, with its role above those roles. With **Wait for Verification** on, the roles come when the member passes verification.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The DM never arrives">
    The member does not accept DMs from server members. The channel message is still posted.
